Alternative K-8

Dedicated teachers and supportive parents who work together to see that all of our students achieve to their potential and beyond. Berwick received an excellent rating from the Ohio Department of Education in 2011. In the past Berwick has won awards for its exemplary environmental and science program. “Hands-on” science and math activities in classrooms keep Berwick staff and students involved in science and math. Parents of 8th grade students may request that their child attend Eastmoor Academy for high school without having to apply throught the School Choice program.

We follow the elementary/middle school State of Ohio and Common Core curriculum with a strong emphasis on the integration of science, technology, environmental studies/engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). Students in grades 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 are expected to participate in overnight or day camp as part of our outdoor education program.
The Literacy Collaborative Framework is used for Reading instruction in all grades. Common Core Math resources include the Engage New York framework (grades K-5) and Glencoe Math (grades 6-8). Middle School students participate in the Project Lead the Way  Gateway to Technology/Biomed program, and 8th graders have the opportunity to earn high school credit for various courses. Our Unified Arts program includes art, vocal music, instrumental music, and physical education. We enjoy many partnerships that enhance our educational program, including but not limited to Junior Achievement, Columbus Tutoring Initiative, CAHS and Eastmoor tutors, Ohio University student observers, and Reading Buddies. Full time reading and math coaches work with teachers and students on a daily basis.
